Happy New Year

Greetings and Salutations,

As I write this I think back on this year and thank God for letting me be alive.

I thank God for my children and wife. I thank God for our friends and family.

I thank God for my health and the renewal I have found through running.

Now with that being said, as this is a running blog of sorts, I must confess that this Christmas season has been very difficult to find time to exercise.

I changed running styles, or at least tried too and as a result sidelined myself for pushing way too hard.. I was a heel striker when I ran and I tried changing to the Pose Method of running; this forces you to strike with the forefoot. Let me just say it will make a huge difference in the feel of your running.

Let me caution you though; if you want to run with less impact on your knees and heels, be prepared to take a hit on your shins. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you begin with the exercises and then progress to jumping rope to build up the muscles in your shins.

God Bless and have a very safe and Happy New year!

Isaiah 43:16, 18-19“This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”

Christmas is Almost Here!

Greetings and Salutations!

Why is it that Christmas is always so hectic? I was watching "Little House on the Prairie" this weekend and realized, wouldn't life be great if it were really that simple.

So, my last post was about New Year resolutions. Why resolve to not doing something? I said I don't but I will. I resolve to be healthier for my family. Its my gift to them for 2009.

With that being said keep a watch out for training programs that I will be following including, but not limited to weightlifting, triathlon (if I can find a pool,) and running.

Christmas is just around the corner so just let me say this, "God bless each and every one of you. May He, throughout the rest of this year and into 2009, shine His countenance upon you and be gracious."

When you have a second and this won't take long, grab a Bible or look up Luke 2 online.

Luke 2:11-14“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

Christ was born as a sacrifice for my sins and yours. We are all sinners and all fall short in the eyes of God. Accept Christ as your Lord and savior and you will be blessed more than you will ever imagine.

So… I Think I like Running

Greetings and Salutations!

Now that Christmas and New Year are here, like everyone else, I am thinking about resolutions; thinking that is. I never follow through with them so why bother.

I used to run. I was forced to run. Heavy people are not built for running... pish posh; they can run. Running for the sake of running is fun when you understand what you are doing! It has taken me 14 years to realize that running because an upperclassmen in college says, "You will run knob. You are a fat piece of... well you get where I'm going; is why running wasn’t fun. Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t run

Running to a specific heart rate was the key for me.

Beginning runners, take 180 - <your age> and don't let your heart rate get any higher than that!

Try it, you might like it!!!
